You definitely have an original Collins & Company piece there. Collins No. 30 the "U.S.N. 20" Machete.
Check out the book Collins: Machetes and Bowies 1845-1965 By Daniel Edward Henry (D.E. Henry) You will find a description of your No. 30 in there on page 142 and a picture page 212. It looks like it was used heavily during WWII. |

I am bringing this thread to the top since I have probably the same machete as knkun. Macabee do you know if these machetes were primarly military issues. Were they only issued to U.S.N. or to the ground forces also? Is there any chance to find out the year of manifacture from the serial number?
I include a picture of mine beside a US helmet for size comparison, these things are huge.
Best Regards

Camaro,
It does look like the 20" version was only ordered by the navy about 1944.
The navy wanted them for landing party's in the Pacific to be used by their amphibous forces. _________________ Macabee

I was wondering if there was a no. 13 made, I can not make the number out on the blade bit there is a 13 on the sheath below the crown and hand with hammer logo. _________________ so many things to get so little money |
